We are so excited to launch this final Kindergarten project. This is our third year of doing this project, but the first year we are doing it collaboratively. We know our young learners are so CREATIVE and COMPASSIONATE about the world around them. Many older students at QAE are given time and space to be compassionate creators, working to make the world a better place via a “Genius Hour” program. We developed this project to provide our kindergarteners with a developmentally appropriate way to have the time, space, and materials to be compassionate creators. People all over the world use their minds in creative ways to solve the problems they see around them. We will start this project by looking at examples of people across the globe who have come up with creative solutions for problems in their lives and communities. Last week, we visited the Gates Foundation and read books about the problems people are facing and how they have come up with solutions to solve them. We also identified problems in our world that we care a lot about. This week, we will continue talking about how we can help address problems we all care a lot about and will focus our opinion writing on this effort. Soon, we will be working collaboratively to develop our ideas into plans! |
Learning that All Lives Have Equal ValueLast Thursday, we visited the Gates’ Foundation's All Lives Have Equal Value exhibit. We learned about how the foundation is helping people around the world gain access to literacy, medicine, clean water and much more! Thanks to the family members who joined us and made the trip so easy and fun! (If you have photos, send them my way so I can add the to this slide show!) | Learning About Vaccine ResearchOn Friday, Ansel’s mom came in and gave the kids a great hands-on lesson about how vaccines keep people healthy and how they are tested for effectiveness. Thank you for your creative lesson, Holly! |
