Our 1st Kindergarten Reading and Writing Celebration!
The Hard Work That Went Into Our 1st Literacy Celebration!
One of the most powerful things that emergent writers can do is reread their writing. My writers have been working hard to be able to do this challenging work and last Friday every student had written a small moment story about thier own life that they could read! They each used an editing checklist to self-assess which things they are already doing to make our writing easier to read and which things they still need to work on as a writer. Writer who are consistently using all of the skills on the editing (green) checklist also started using a narrative genre (blue) checklist to set goals for their continued writing growth. As students completed their first checklist self-assessment, they posted their stories and checklists on their Seesaw journal. Make sure you visit your student's work regularly and let them know that you are reading their writing! | In addition to our Readers' and Writers' Workshop lessons, we have been continuing to learn our Reading Horizons curriculum. At this point in the year, kindergarteners are expected to be letter sound experts. We have spent quite a bit of time getting to know the letters of the alphabet, with more than a little help from our ZooPhonic animal friends. On Friday, we learned our last letter animal and sang the ZooPhonics animal song for the first time. After break, we will conintue too build words with our consonant and vowel soundsand expand our phonics learning to learn blends. Blends are two or three consonants together that have sounds that are arced together to make a new sound. We will also learn to sing the animal song! |
Another Listening Experts' Marble Jar Celebration!
