We spent our last week together celebrating the end of an amazing kindergarten year. The kids enjoyed their first field day and our final visits with our 3rd grade reading buddies and our kindergarten friendship clubs. On our last day together, we shared a gratitude circle at our final class meeting. This is something we do at the end of each year to celebrate the importance each one of our contributions has made to our unique classroom connection. It is also a great way to teach the kids (and ourselves) that it is okay for a really cool experience to be over ~ that together we created something beautiful and now it is time to move forward, taking the memories and lessons from this experience forward into life with us. Mindy started videoing our circle, but we soon realized that we needed two adults to help the kids successfully participate. I think the short section that she captured is worth sharing, as it will give you a flavor of how special the connection that this amazing group had this year. I will SeeSaw it for you to see. We followed this emotionally packed experience with a sunny picnic with lots of family members and one final Go Noodle dance party! During all of these events, I was struck with how much all of our students have learned, and how aware they have become of their classmates' needs and what it takes to work collaboratively as they learn.
And so it is with mixed emotions that I say farewell to this amazing group of learners. I am sad that I will no longer get to spend each day with them, but also proud of how far they have come and excited for the learners they will grow to be. I am confident that they are very ready for the learning adventures that first grade will bring.
As I watch them move on, I will tuck my happy memories of our year together away in my heart, so grateful for all that they have taught me.
Thank you again for so fully supporting their kindergarten learning. I look forward to watching their continued growth in the years to come!
With love and gratitude,
Katie
