I so loved meeting with every family last week and having an opportunity to connect and be with one another in a calm setting before starting this important and exciting kindergarten learning journey together.
In addition to meeting with all of you, my husband and I began our journey as middle school parents last week. Our son, Jack, graduated from QAE in the spring and has successfully launched his 6th grade year
at McClure Middle School. Every year, I used our first day of school photo on my website. This year, we took this first '1st day at different schools photo'. You will all be taking a big parental step tomorrow as you drop you student off at Kindergarten for the first time. I remember how that felt and would like to acknowledge your important efforts in advance! You should be proud of yourselves ~ I know I was proud of myself on Wednesday when I left McClure.
Jumpstart seems like a long time ago, and I am more than ready to welcome your children to their first day of kindergarten tomorrow morning! I can not wait to get back to teaching, and am hoping your little one is
as excited as I am for our first day together tomorrow.

Each morning, playground supervision will start at 7:30. All students stay on the playground until the 7:50 bell rings and hallways open. Tomorrow, you are welcome to walk your student into our classroom and help get them settled. Students will be coloring at their tables for about 5 minutes and then I will ask them to wave goodbye to their family members and come to the learning carpet to listen to a story. Please prepare yourself and your child for this goodbye ahead of time. The more okay you are with a quick and positive goodbye, the more okay your student will be with your exit. Before you leave QAE tomorrow morning, I need to get some important information from you. Please take time to fill out the "how we go home" chart on the clipboards outside the classroom. If you will not be at QAE tomorrow morning, please send me an e-mail with how your student will be going home the first few day. Please pack a snack for your student that is seperate from their lunch and easily accessible to them in their backpack. Snacks should be something light and easy for them to eat in about 10 minutes. I will be sending lots of school information home in orange folders tomorrow, including important forms that need to be signed and returned. Each child will have an orange folder that they will bring to and from home daily. Please get in the habit of checking this folder daily. If you have anything for me, please send it back to school in the orange folder as I check them daily. | Many of you have asked about our daily schedule. I have included a copy above. For the first week, we will have some unique start of school activities that will not be reflected on the schedule. However, we will be settling in and following the schedule pretty closely by the second week. On Fridays, we will also be meeting our 3rd grade reading buddies in Ms. Palumbo's class and having our first Kindergarten Friendship Club! |
Most of my communication to families will be done through this class website & blog! I will blog every Sunday, sharing photos and information about our past week and letting you know what is ahead. Please plan to read the blog regularly with your student, discussing what is happening at school and even leaving a comment about our learning if you are so moved! I recommend doing this on Sunday evenings if possible, as it will help ease your student's transition from a weekend to a school day schedule. You can also follow me on Twitter (@msCLqae) as I tweet my posts after publishing. Always feel free to contact me at [email protected] with questions or concerns.
I am looking forward to a great year of learning and growing together,
