Last week, we launched our first kindergarten PBL project ~ Who Am I ?. The driving questions for this PBL project are "How are we the same?" and "How are we different?" By the end of the project, we will expect our kindergarten students to be able to:
- speak audibly and express thoughts, feelings and ideas clearly.
- ask and answers questions in order to seek help,
get information,or clarify something that is not understood. - describe familiar people, places, things and events and
with prompting and support provide additional detail. - look at and acknowledge a speaker
We read the book Whoever You Are by Mem Fox and started thinking about the question ~ What Makes Me Me?. We reflected on this question as we drew ourselves doing what we love ~ our favorite activity.
This coming week, we will deepen our self-exploration about What Makes Me Me? to start asking ourselves How are we the same? and How are we different? As we identify the similarities and differences between us, we will discuss how these differences are what make us each so unique and wonderful! We will continue to read great books about these concepts and continue to explore who we are and how we connect to others.
In class, we will be creating thumbprint portraits of our families. In Art class, Ms. Arzani will help the students create additional art pieces (self-portraits, favorite food plates and home creations) that will be displayed with our favorite activities and family portraits on a Who Am I display board. At the end of the project, students will use their audible speaking skills and their art work to teach their classmates about who they are.

Counting Collections! | Writers' Workshop |
Counting collections are exactly what they sound like ~ a collection of items to be counted. This week, students selected a blue dot bag with 1 – 10 objects or a green dot bag with 11 – 20 objects to count. We will do counting collections every Friday. As the year goes on, the number of objects will go a lot higher as we become more confident and competent counters. I look forward to sharing the growth that the students will make over the year in organizing and showing their math thinking. | In Writers' Workshop, we shifted from writing teaching books to writing true stories about things we have done or things that have happened to us. This week we will continue to tell these important stories, adding details about where they happened, who was there and what people were doing. |
